Daily News Flash with Arun Gupta – Syria Gas Attack, NYPD Targets Mosques, Judge Sympathizes with Rapist

British Intelligence has concluded that the Syrian government was behind a major chemical attack on its citizens. The British Joint Intelligence Organization announced this morning that it was “highly likely” that Bashar Al Assad’s government gassed its own people and did so on 14 prior occasions. The report comes hours after President Obama said on PBS that he had not yet made up his mind whether or not to order US air strikes on Syria. Click here to read a CNN article about the story.
The New York Police department is yet again under fire – this time for designating entire mosques as terrorism organisms, according an Associated Press report. The designations allow police to spy on the mosques, record the immam’s sermons and use informants. Click here to read a Guardian Newspaper article about the story.
A Montana judge is under fire for charging a rapist only 30 days in prison for raping a 14 year old high school girl. While the criminal case was pending, the girl committed suicide just before her 17th birthday. During the trial Judge G. Todd Baugh remarked that the girl seemed older than her chronological age and that she was in “as much in control of the situation” as her teacher. Residents of Billings, Montana, where the crime took place have organized protests against the light sentence and the judge’s apparent bias. Click here to read an LA Times article about the story.
