Undocumented DREAMers Attempt to Cross Back into US
Following up on their bold action in August when 9 DREAM activists crossed the border into Mexico and then attempted to legally return to the US, the National Immigrant Youth Alliance or NIYA is staging a new protest today to spotlight the nation’s broken immigration system. In just a few hours, 30 young undocumented activists who grew up in the United States will attempt to return home.
Wearing caps and gowns, the young people have gathered at the Port of Entry in Laredo, Texas to ask for re-entry. Attorney David Bennion will be filing thirty discretionary requests with the Administration asking for re-entry for the young Dreamers.
NIYA’s action on DREAM 9 back in August had the support of 43 members of Congress who wrote letters on their behalf to the Obama Administration. The group also gathered over 27,000 signatures in an online petition.
The DREAM 9 spent more than 2 weeks at the notorious Eloy Detention in Arizona where they started a hunger strike. They were all eventually released and returned to their families in the US.
Meanwhile, Immigration Reform proposals in Congress have come to a standstill as politicians continue to disagree on a plan.

This is plumb crazy.
They model themselves after the civil disobedience of the Civil Rights movement yet they miss one key fact about the black experience.
Even during slavery it was not a desire for blacks to leave the country and find somewhere else to live. It was the ambition to change the country blacks were living in. And as a starting point, African-Americans had much worse conditions and a much higher mountain to climb for change than Mexicans do.
Why not change your country? Why is the only option to flee to the U.S.-leaving so many of your fellows behind.
That being said, Obama has let the cat out of the bag and now he’s in over his head– again. This is all just terrible. Nobody respects the U.S. border. It has become a joke.
