Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law, Suleiman Abu Ghaith has just been convicted of “conspiring to kill Americans and providing material support to terrorists,” in the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. Married to bin Laden’s daughter, Fatima, Mr. Abu Ghaith was captured last year and secretly brought to New York where he stood trial. Abu Ghaith recorded a number of fiery videos exhorting others to plan and carry out terrorist attacks against the US.

The 3 week long trial was unusual in that the Obama Administration has more often carried out extra judicial killings of suspected terrorists via drone strikes in countries like Yemen and Pakistan. Some members of Congress were staunchly opposed to a trial on US soil. Abu Ghaith has been convicted on three counts each of which constitutes maximum sentences of 15 years.
