The Jayuya Uprising by Subversive Historian Gabriel San Roman
Fifty-eight years ago on this day in people’s history, the Jayuya Uprising took hold on the island of Puerto Rico. On the morning of October 30th, 1950, Blanca Canales of the Nationalist Party led an armed rebellion to liberate Puerto Rico from U.S. colonialism and declare its independence. Pedro Albizu Campos and other Nationalists hastened their uprising after uncovering plans by the United States to deal a fatal blow to the independence movement by utilizing repressive laws to arrest many of the top leaders of the cause. To avoid the coming crackdown – which would have made King George III proud no doubt – the Nationalists launched their attack in the town of Jayuya strategically located in the central mountains. Canales’ forces routed the police and took control as the rebellion spread throughout the island. The U.S. response through the colonial government was to suppress the rebellion through successful bombing campaigns.
Trying to portray the conflict as an internal matter to Puerto Ricans, the U.S. imposed a media blackout on the events unfolding. The news of the day can be stifled, but the truth of history has its own way of rising up!
For Uprising, this is your truth professa’ saying it’s no mystery why they conceal our history!

I think what you published was very reasonable. However, what about this?
suppose you added a little information? I mean, I don’t wish to tell you how to run your website,
however what if you added a post title that makes people
want more? I mean uprisingradio.org ? Subversive Historian – 10/30/08 is
kinda plain. You ought to peek at Yahoo’s front page and note how they create article headlines to
grab viewers to click. You might add a video or a pic or two to
get readers interested about what you’ve got to say.
In my opinion, it might bring your posts a
little livelier.
