Religious Right Celebrates Victory Against Same-Sex Marriage
Six months after the California Supreme Court cleared the way for gay and lesbian couples to wed this summer, California voters are narrowly choosing to amend the state constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry. With 95% of precincts reporting, Prop 8 has is passing 52-48% with $73 million were spent by both sides campaigning furiously, the majority from the Yes on 8 side. The estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who took advantage of the supreme court decision now wonder where their legal status stands.

52 % of CA can hardly be reduced to the religious right. In another state maybe, but not in CA.
We weren’t reducing the 52% of voters to “the religious right,” just stating that the religious right was celebrating the victory. That is a true fact, is it not?
I am ashamed to be a californian…we choose to extend rights to chickens but take away from humans(gays).
Absolutely!!! WE ARE CELEBRATING!!!!! I am a gay man, and my partner of 17 years and I don’t feel like we’ve lost anything at all! We voted yes on Prop 8 because our religious rights, and parental rights for all!
The “Religious Right” is NEITHER! I’m a 50 year old gay man who was FINALLY allowed to marry. I’ll be damned if I let ANYONE take my civil rights away. SEPARATE is NOT EQUAL!!!…I swear, I’ll fight the “religious right” to my grave! Where does the “religious right” think gay people come from???!!! HETEROSEXUAL UNIONS!!!!!! ..NO ONE is going to deny me my civil rights!!!
