Walmart Workers Launch First Wave of Holiday Season Protests with Historic Sit-Ins
Walmart workers upped the ante yet again with a sit-in – the first of its kind – at a Los Angeles area store in Crenshaw yesterday – the same store where the first protests against Walmart for retaliation took place two years ago. And, later, yesterday evening, workers launched a second sit-in, at another Southern California Walmart store in Pico Rivera. That sit-in resulted in the arrest of 23 workers and organizers.
The group Our Walmart led both protests, and is made up of current and former Walmart workers and union organizers who have organized walkouts and demonstrations over the company’s poor labor for the past two years. Yesterday’s sit-ins represent an early chapter of protests planned for the holiday shopping season.
