Kurt IsobeGUEST: Debbie, a teacher in Riverside and a volunteer with El Centro

On Sunday, an anti-immigrant march organized by Black Republican Ted Hayes drew only 100 or so demonstrators in downtown Los Angeles. Using the same route as the historic March 25th and May 1st marches, attendees from anti-immigrant groups such as the Minuteman Project and Save Our State gathered at Olympic and Broadway and marched to City Hall for a rally. About as many or more pro-immigrant rights activists turned out to counter-demonstrate and three of them were arrested. Meanwhile, the trial of an anti-minuteman protestor continues this week in Orange County. Kurt Isobe, an activist at an anti-minuteman counter-demonstration in Garden Grove on May 25th, 2005 is the last person facing charges stemming from that event. Listeners might recall that at the Garden Grove demonstration, Hal Netkin, a minuteman supporter, hit several activists including Theresa Dang with his car. Netkin, though arrested, was released soon thereafter without being charged.

Kurt Isobe’s court dates are Tuesday May 23rd, 24th, and 25th at 8:30 am in courtroom C40 at Central Justice Center: Orange County Superior Court, 700 Civic Center Drive West, Santa Ana, CA
