Who Won Tuesday’s Democratic Debate?
GUESTS: Roberto Lovato, writer for the Nation and a visiting scholar, UC Berkeley’s Center for Latino Policy Research, Julianne Hing, Julianne is a reporter covering immigration and the election for The Nation.
Four white men and one white woman gathered on a stage on Tuesday evening in Las Vegas for the first debate among Democratic candidates for President. Bernie Sanders, Martin O’Malley, Lincoln Chafee, Jim Webb and Hillary Clinton faced off in a debate that was certainly more substantive than the Republican debates have been.
While most mainstream media declared Clinton the winner, Sanders’ name was mentioned most often on social media and in fact he garnered more than 28,000 new Twitter followers during the debate, far more than any other candidate.
The lengthy debate tackled many issues including income inequality, gun control, immigration, as well as US foreign policy in Syria, Iraq, and Libya.
