What the Drone Papers Tell Us About Obama’s Wars
GUEST: Kathleen McClellan, National Security and Human Rights Deputy Director for the Whistleblower and source protection program at Expose Facts.
The Intercept last week published an explosive series of documents obtained from an anonymous source, about the US’s secret drone warfare program. A team of reporters spent months analyzing the documents, referred to as The Drone Papers, and interviewing the source. Journalist Jeremy Scahill, who is well known for his work on drones through his book and film Dirty Wars, led the reporting. The documents apparently show how flawed the intelligence is that drone operators routinely rely on to take out targets, and how civilian deaths are underreported. This program of extra-judicial assassination is being carried out in Afghanistan, where the US is waging an overt war, but also in Yemen, Somalia, and Pakistan.
