Clearing Misconceptions of the Iran Nuclear Deal
GUEST: Reese Erlich, veteran freelance foreign correspondent who has traveled widely across the Middle East. He has written a number of books including, The Iran Agenda, and his latest is Inside Syria. He has reported.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei this week praised the lifting of sanctions against his nation as a result of the US-Iran nuclear deal. The US, European Union, and United Nations lifted the sanctions over the weekend. However, Khamenei added, “I reiterate the need to be vigilant about the deceit and treachery of arrogant countries, especially the United States, in this (nuclear) issue and other issues.”
The US added new sanctions on Sunday against companies that have contributed to Iran’s ballistic missile program. The Obama administration has touted the Iran deal as its crowning foreign policy achievement. However, Republicans have lambasted it, and many fear the hard-won agreement might be undone under a Republican presidency next year.
Meanwhile, a handful of individuals have benefitted most directly from the deal. The Iranian government this week released four American prisoners, including Washington Post correspondent Jason Rezaian. In response, the US is releasing nine Iranian prisoners.

They hated Carter because he allowed the Shah to come to the United States for medical treatment…so for this, they captured Americans and made hostages of them for over a year, burned the American flag, and hate Americans….I have unfriended all of the Iranian so called friends I once had on Facebook…due to the horrible anti-American sentiments posted by many Iranians yet today.
