Encampment Continues at the South Central Farm

GUEST: Dan Stormer, Attorney for the South Central Farmers

In the early 1990s, 350 farmers in South Central Los Angeles brought a piece of City property to life with fruit and vegetable farms, turning the 14-acre plot into a local oasis for many in the community. But two years ago, the City of Los Angeles sold the land back to developer Ralph Horwitz to build more warehouses in the community. The farmers fought in court, retaining one of the top civil rights lawyers in the country, but still lost in court. This week, the eviction proceedings have been put in place to remove the farmers from the land and make way for the developer to replace the farm with the warehouses. Dan Stormer, the farmers’ lawyer has been onsite where celebrities and community activists have all gathered to try to prevent the demise of the South Central Farm.
