Troops Home Fast
GUESTS: Jodie Evans, co-founder of Code Pink, Ra’ed Jarrar, Director of the Iraq Project at Global Exchange
For the past ten days, a number of high profile antiwar activists including Cindy Sheehan, Ann Wright, Medea Bejamin, Dick Gregory, and others, have been fasting on the White House lawn to protest the on-going US occupation of Iraq. The hunger strike was organized by Code Pink and now has almost 4000 supporters joining them in solidarity in various ways around the country and world. Well known fasters include Willie Nelson, Michael Franti, Danny Glover, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon, Gulf War vet Michael McPherson, writer Alice Walker, and labor leader Dolores Huerta. The group of fasters at the White House plan on staying there until August 15th when they’ll move to Camp Casey in Crawford, Texas for another two weeks. They then plan to return to Washington DC, to end the fast on September 21st — International Peace Day.
