California DREAM Act

| the entire program

Gil CedilloGUEST: Mario Escobar, Miguel Carvente, immigrant students at UCLA

Last month, a caravan of students from Southern California converged on Sacramento to join a rally supporting the “California Dream Act.” On June 19th and 20th, students from various colleges including UCLA, East LA College, and Cal State Dominguez Hills went to the state’s capitol to urge members of the California State Legislature to approve Senate Bill 160. Authored by Democratic State Senator Gil Cedillo, SB160 would make all California high school graduates, including undocumented immigrants, eligible to receive state-sponsored financial aid. Public colleges and universities have come out in support of the bill. Locally, student activists are planning a voter registration drive to gain votes on behalf of undocumented students and SB160.

The voter registration drive will be on Thursday July 27th from 10 am to 1 pm at LA Trade Tech College, in front of the K Mall.

Don’t reward ILLEGAL immigration law breakers with educational perks . Oppose SB160.

Just let me ask you something? did you study US History? If you can answer that questions, you would know that you are an inmmigrant as well. We all are. You are just a hater and uneducated person that don’t have anything possitive to say. I wish Karma dose not hunt you back, because people like you who does not support education can not contribute with any positive ideas to create a better society.

Great achievements in life have been done from those who propose ideas to solve problems.

It is not students’ fault that their parents brought them to the US withouth their consent. There are students who want to have a better education and have not come to the US to do bad things. Give them a chance.

I go to City college, It’s hard for me because first of all, I can’t work legally, which means that it’s hard to find a job. I was brought to the United states when i was ten and now I’m Twenty, I have never broken any law, nor commited a crime. My Hopes and Dreams Depend on this Law.

It is kind of funny when a bill comes up about immigrants, everything goes haywire. “What, No, This, and that”, crap, enough. Immigration reform was understandable, but this D.R.E.A.M Act is way different from any immigration reform of a bill. This D.R.E.A.M Act has potential and this children especially are awaiting for their future. This what makes me look everyday and say it’s a good day, but it’s not, this bill makes me move and think that their is hope, hope that I will have a future.

Yeh rat on my comment, but people who undermine this bill should first understand and research clearly what this bill is about. Waht about backdoor right?, well it depends because petitioning someone takes much longer.

I’ve came here when I was 5, went to school here throughout elementary, highschool, and up to now college. I will be graduating in June 2008, till then I don’t know what to do, but hope, this dream act will go through

Kids who were brought to this country had no say on it. They are stuck in a land that doesnt want them. BUt they have learned to love this land, and many of them are very bright. I include myself. For no fault of my own im supposed to suffer. Being in this country for 15 years of my life and knowing no other land or rules, i have to face the reality that sooner of later i will be also kicked out of the land i love of the land i help of the land that has taught me so much. Im illegal for no fault of my own! Thanks for putting yourselves in our shoes.

My wife was brought to this country by her parents when she was 9. I am a US citizen and I can’t even legalize her because she came in illegally. She graduated college with a teaching degree, but she can’t teach because of her legal status. The Dream Act is her only hope of achieving what so many call the American Dream.

The word illegal has no meaning to Mexican’s and others who under their culture do not recognized what the “Law of the Land” means to those of us who came here legally!
You have bleed this country of $9 billion dollars annually just to pay for your primary education that has cost American children dearly. Now you think because you feel that you should be given more money for a college/university education because it is not your fault that you were brought here as a child.
Until ICE catches up with and American laws are enforced you will have to do what the rest of us poor working class people do.
    Work for your stolen education.
It is bad enough that you are even allowed access to the colleges and make American’s complete for what little space there is, now you have the nerve to expect American tax payer’s to give you access to our money as well.
Take your stolen education, go home to Mexico and fight for a better way of life there after all it the land of your birth.

    Dear Gloria,
You last name shows that you are a grand-daughter or great grand daughter of immigrants that came to this country maybe long time ago. . .I am 100% sure that you are not pure Native American.
I am white female legal immigrant. I, personally, do not know any illegal or legal immigrants who do not work hard and do not pay taxes. But I know at least three people who were born in this country, who weight 300 pounds, who do not work and live on a wellfare. . . All they do – sit on their huge asses and do nothing but eat McDonalds. And you are, actually, paying for those “Americans.” My son was born here – he is an American. The only difference between him and those kids who were brought here at the age of 6 months and older – is a piece of paper with water marks that says that he was born here. So, do you think only because he is born here, he can sit on his ass, use all those programs and benefits that this country can offer, and those other kids who were brought here can not even take a state loan for their education? And all they want is to get education and work and pay those taxes that you are so worried about! You are not working for their stolen education! You are paying for your McDonalds and french fries! They want to pay for their education, they do not want you to just give them the money! I am wondering if you, actually, have any education. Because if you don’t – it is only because you are LAZY!!! And your life will not change a bit if those kids will be able to take students loans and get their degree, get a job in their field and obtain a green card. If you are competing with those people for the education and you are loosing – it is because you are not as good as them!
So don’t worry, your life will not change! You still will be able to go to work every day and eat Burger King for breakfast and Taco Bell for lunch. And those people will be the ones who, actually, will make this country better and not you…

Right now it is very difficult for California to finance anymore projects, especially for illegals, Many companies are closing down, people are loosing there homes and jobs, and taxes keep on rising. I think that it is embarrasing that these people think that somebody owes them free health care, welfare, education, free housing, free transportation, free legal services, and that is not enough for them. While the U.S citizens are loosing there jobs, homes, retirements, and our taxes keep rising. And the ilegals still want more benefits. I believe that the only way that one benefits in Calfornia is if they are breaking the Law.
