Anti war Multi-millionaire Set to beat Lieberman
| the entire program
GUEST: Norman Solomon, Executive Director of Institute for Public Accuracy
In tomorrow’s Democratic primary, two candidates face off for a seat on the US Senate to represent the state of Connecticut. They are Senator Joseph Lieberman, Al Gore’s former running mate and pro-war hawk and three-term incumbent. And, a man who had no name recognition only 7 months ago – Ned Lamont – a politically inexperienced multi-millionaire anti-war progressive. A recent poll shows Lamont has a 13-point lead over Lieberman among likely voters in tomorrow’s Democratic primary. Lieberman has said he intends to run as an independent if he loses. Lamont’s success has been driven by several factors, among them deep anti-war sentiments against the war in Iraq, and voters’ anger at Lieberman’s stance in favorof war, as well as support from bloggers and other progressive activists. Lamont’s personal fortune, which has also allowed him to enter the race, is estimated at $200 million and was made from his company, Lamont Digital Systems, which wires college campuses and gated communities for cable television.
