A day after 23-year-old Israel Maciel was killed and four others injured in a drive-by shooting in Costa Mesa, Mayor Allan Mansoor commented that it was time to “remove the welcome mat.” Costa Mesa’s mayor, who enjoys honorary membership in the Minute Man Project, claimed that the violence was due to “job centers, soup kitchens and a high concentration of downscale rental units.” The city of Costa Mesa in Orange County has the distinction of being the first city in the country to pass a measure calling for it’s police officers to be trained in immigration enforcement. Now a new report by the Southern Poverty Law Center on racism in Costa Mesa links Mayor Mansoor with white supremacist Martin Millard. The Southern Poverty Law Center is one of the nation’s leading organizations to track white supremacy groups and hate crimes.
