While President Obama’s scheduled commencement address at Notre Dame continues to draw controversy, award-winning writer and performer Monica Palacios is set to make history at another Catholic University. On Monday, the Los Angeles based creator of several one-woman shows, including “Greetings from a Queer Señorita” will become the first gay performer to take to the stage at Loyola Marymount University. The campus, which was founded nearly a century ago, is a Catholic institution firmly rooted in the Jesuit and Marymount traditions. Palacios had been an adjunct professor at LMU for many years and was recently approached by a former student of hers to participate in the first queer show in the school’s history. Presented by the Gay Straight Alliance, “Out! with a Bang,” is a free event featuring Palacios as well as performances by LGBT students from LMU in what promises to be two acts of history making entertainment.

GUESTS: Monica Palacios, award winning writer and performer, KB Perry & Jenni Beckwith, co-presidents of the Gay Straight Alliance at LMU.
