Anti-Immigrant Vigilantes Target Maywood
GUEST: Felipe Aguirre, Vice Mayor of Maywood
This Saturday, anti-immigrant groups such as Save Our State and the Minutemen Project will be holding a rally in Maywood to protest the city’s decision to become a sanctuary for the undocumented. Counter- demonstrators plan to gather in front of Maywood’s City Hall to denounce the presence of the anti-immigrant groups. Last January, Maywood garnered national attention when city officials declared it a “sanctuary†city in response to House Resolution 4437. In addition to the declaration, the council majority eliminated the Police’s Traffic Division after receiving complaints of officers unfairly targeting undocumented immigrants. Maywood’s Deputy Mayor, Felipe Aguirre, who has spearheaded many of the efforts to improve the lives of the undocumented, began receiving threats after the sanctuary resolution. According to court records, one threat targeted at Aguirre read, “Focus on your residents, not on wetbacks.†A small city south of downtown Los Angeles, Maywood is approximately 96% percent Latino and more than half of its residents are foreign born.
There will be a citizenship fair on Saturday August 26th from 11 am to 2 pm in the parking lot of the St. Rose of Lima Church on the corner of Atlantic and 60th in Maywood.

Nice video.I heard that a lot of illegal immigrants are killing people.Which is one of the main reasons not to have people roaming from country to country illegally. You have to have a way to keep track of your citizens. Its pretty much hurting the Latino community mainly though.Idiots huh? Durg dealer, sure! Come on in! Killer, fine! Rapist, welcome to my house.. You can stay in my daughters room.Every country on this planet created their borders for a reason right?
