A statewide poll released last Wednesday revealed that Democratic Gubernatorial candidate, State Treasurer Phil Angelides has failed to narrow Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s double-digit lead in the contest for governor. Angelides has pledged to demand the return of California National Guard troops from the war in Iraq and has heavily linked Schwarzenegger to Bush. Yet the poll, conducted by the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California, found that just 57% of Democrats back Angelides. Even in the Democrats’ greatest stronghold, the Bay Area, Schwarzenegger has a slim majority over Angelides. Additionally the poll showed that Californians are leaning toward approval of all but one of the $43 billion in bond measures on the state ballot.
