Californians Vote a Mixed Bag

Californian voters chose incumbent Arnold Schwarzenegger for Governor by 56% in yesterday’s election. Democrat Phil Angelides won 39% of the vote with the Green Party’s Peter Camejo only drawing 2%. Democrats Jerry Brown and Bill Lockyer won their races for Attorney General and State Treasurer respectively. Among the ballot measures, all 5 bond measures for infrastructure improvement, won. Proposition 89, the campaign finance law written by the California Nurses Association, lost by 74.5% to 25.5%. Proposition 85, the Parental Notification of Minor’s Pregnancy measure, also lost by 54.1% to 45.9%. Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein won an easy victory with 60% of the vote. The Republican candidate Dick Mountjoy won 35%, and the Green Party’s Todd Chretien won 2%.
