On August 11, 2006, William Cardenas from Hollywood was brutally beaten by the Hollywood division of the LAPD. In a case of Orwellian logic Cardenas was arrested and charged with the felony use of violence or threat of violence to prevent an officer from performing their duty, even as he was being assaulted by two white officers. Further the DA has now added one year of gang enhancement charges, alleging his conduct was intended to benefit his alleged gang membership. However, William doesn’t have a history of gang involvement until now, nor since the LAPD put it on his record.
