For God and Country
GUESTS: James Yee, former Army Muslim Chaplain at Guantanamo, author of “For God And Country: Faith and Patriotism Under Fire”

For God and CountryUS Army Chaplain James Yee was the only Muslim chaplain at Guantanamo Bay. He was singled out by General Geoffrey Miller and unexpectedly arrested, and charged with no evidence. James Yee, a West Point graduate, spent 76 days shackled in maximum security prison. All charges against him were eventually dropped. He has written about his experiences in a book called “For God And Country: Faith and Patriotism Under Fire.” We interviewed James Yee about his experiences at Guantanamo and the treatment of prisoners, as well as his arrest and treatment by the US government.

Sonali’s Subversive Thought for the Day:

“I was sure that I was being imprisoned in large part because I had fought so hard to ensure the detainees at Guantánamo were given the things they needed to practice their religion, yet here I was being denied those things myself.” – James Yee, from his book, “For God And Country: Faith and Patriotism Under Fire.”
