New Alliance Calls for Impeachment of Governor Schwarzenegger
The California State Assembly, in a rare effort to amend a social program slated for deep cuts, passed a bill on Friday aimed at bolstering Healthy Families. With some bipartisan support, and with an expected signature from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, nearly 700,000 children will be saved from being cut from the program that provides government subsidized medical coverage to children from low-income homes. Legislative efforts on behalf of the state’s social welfare safety net have been all too rare, however, as massive cuts across the board have been the norm in response to the budget crisis. A new alliance called Californians for Accountable Leadership has formed in an effort to impeach Governor Schwarzenegger stating that his leadership has constituted a “gross misconduct in office.” The coalition of community organizations, social service agencies and labor unions will be presenting their demands this Thursday to Assembly Speaker Karen Bass and Senator pro Tem Darrell Steinberg. According to the alliance, Governor Schwarzenegger should be subjected to an impeachment trial for line-item veto abuse, negligence in the face of the budget crisis and putting the lives of Californians at risk by making deep cuts in necessary social services.
GUESTS: Kokayi Kwa Jitahidi, organizer with Californians for Accountable Leadership and Community Coalition, Jeanette Ali, resident of South Los Angeles, recipient of several state programs that have been cut, caring for her cancer-stricken husband
The rally calling for impeachment is on Thursday September 10th at 4 pm outside the Los Angeles offices of Speaker and Senator Pro Tem, 300 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles CA 90013.

There should be another way offered to show support for the impeachment of the Governor, for the few of us that have obligations we can’t get out of.
I was out of work for a year and just began working. My Denti-Cal was cut in July, now I have my first cavity (I’m 28 years old) and its my wisdom tooth. I cannot afford to have it pulled and I’m hoping I can make it 90 days till my employer insurance kicks in. All the while I’m just brushing and taking pain reliever. I don’t know what they’ll do for me if I go to the ER, as everything has been cut and I already called and was told it would be $1800 up front just to pull it. I might go to Mexico if I can find someone who’ll introduce me to a dentist (and maybe translate too?). I’m just so worried, I’m in a lot of pain and I my desk job means speaking with a lot of clients both face to face and over the phone. I’m worried my job will be jeopardized by my inability to fix this tooth, as I know an night in the ER won’t mean much help for me.
I am 100% for the impeachment of Schwarzenegger since I read that he completely ELIMINATED funding for domestic violence shelters. Women and children, Schwarzenegger, really?? WHERE are they supposed to stay? With their violent fathers and husbands? They are now sitting ducks. Defenseless. This alone is a detestable and abominable crime. Let California wash her hands of you, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
