Michael Eric Dyson is the Avalon Foundation Professor in the Humanities at the University of Pennsylvania. He has written over ten books including Holler If You Hear Me: Searching for Tupac Shakur; Why I Love Black Women; I May Not Get There With You: The True Martin Luther King, Jr; Making Malcolm: The Myth and Meaning of Malcolm X; Is Bill Cosby Right?, and Come Hell or High Water: Hurricane Katrina and the Color of Disaster.
Michael Eric Dyson has never shied away from controversy and has taken on the likes of Ward Connerly and Ann Coulter. His latest book is called Debating Race – a collection of many of Dyson’s most memorable encounters and most poignant arguments on the topic of race. Michael Eric Dyson joins us in studio today.
Michael Eric Dyson will have a discussion and book signing on Wednesday March 7th at 7 pm at the Mark Taper Auditorium, Central Library, 630 W Fifth Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071. The event will be moderated by Gregory Rodriguez. There will be a reception prior to the 7 pm talk. The book signing will be at 8:15 pm.

I found this show to be particularly thought-provoking and at the same time, entertaining. I was glad to find that the entire show was focused on this gifted intellectual instead of only giving him a segment in which to speak. After listening to Mr. Dyson for the last 50 mins. of the show, I’ve been inspired to attend his discussion and book signing this evening. Kudos to Ms. Kolhatkar for securing such an interesting & engaging guest!

i really liked what Mr. Dyson had to say. He tells it like it is! I really liked how he pointed out the racial tension between blacks and latinos. I am definately going to the discussion tonight!

Interesting guest speaker with good insights abour race relations. I need to find out more about Mr Dyson’s thinking, to keep myself under control when I encounter Minute Men who not only use nasty stereotyping against Mexican immigrants - but all Mexicans; illegal or citizens or US born, including Latino . I find myself shouting & trying to fight agsint these Minute Men, maybe I can gain some insight from Mr Dyson’s readings.readings.

I’m a victim on race discrimination, retaliation termination and I would like to know your opinion of what actions I should take: Please read my story below:
On January 10, 2008, I returned from my break and found a noose at my work station. (I took a picture of the noose on my cell phone.) I am African-American. I took the noose to Randy Quattlebaum, who is white and works in the same area, and asked him if he knew about the noose. He said he was aware of it, but denied making it. At the end of the workday, I and another co-worker of mine, Yolanda Anderson, saw him leaving the building with the noose rolled up in his hand. We both saw him put it in the back of his truck. I reported the incident to the Bindery Manager, Shane Hudson, the next day. He said he would investigate. A few days later, he told me he had talked to a few people, but nobody knew anything about a noose. I waited about a month to see if anything further happened, and then I went to Lisa Foster, the HR Manager, and reported the incident to her. She said she had heard something about it, but had no names, so she didn’t investigate. She told me she would investigate and get back to me. On March 6, 2008, I was terminated. My Separation Notice said I was being let go for lack of work. I was a part-time employee at Geographics, Inc. and the only time I worked is when they needed me. Therefore, I don’t think my termination was justifiable. Randy, who has been with the company a long time, was not disciplined or terminated. Steve Glenn is another witness. He and I found the noose at the same time. Your opinion is vauled.

file a formal complaint with the EEOC. you can find them online. email your story to every employment discrimination attorney in your area someone will listen.
